Authentic Assessment Information
Authentic Assessment is providing tasks which resemble real life contexts and that have meaning within the real world. Students may obtain knowledge taught in classrooms efficiently however not all students have the skills to transform that knowledge and put it into practice. “An authentic learning context provides students with a lens to conduct the task through” (Davis & Dargusch, sighted in Lynch & Knight, 2010).
Examples of Authentic Assessment are:
The promise of the internet and new technologies and its abilities enables teachers to set up authentic assessment tasks which both stimulates and engages students in the specific task. Tasks such as these allows for students different learning needs and abilities and becomes an assessment piece built for each specific child. |

Authentic assessment also helps students develop deeper understanding as situations are suddenly placed in real- life contexts. As a result students are more actively involved in their learning because they can see how it may directly affect them. to develop authentic assessment teachers must measure student’s learning, achievement, motivation and attitudes toward school (Marzano & Pickering, 2009). This can be done by creating portfolios, making performance observations or by having student’s self- assess themselves. Teachers can enhance students learning by developing authentic assessment with the learners. The task and assessment will then become more personal for the students and hopefully motivate them to succeed.
